Jean-Michel Guenassia 1950-ben született. Ügyvédként dolgozott, forgatókönyveket és színdarabokat írt, majd 2002-ben minden egyébbel felhagyott, hogy nekilásson a Javíthatatlan Optimisták Klubja megírásának. 2009-ben elnyerte vele a Goncourt des lycéens díjat.
